Matt Dunn plays waiting game with filly
Improving two-year-old Dram Of Delago will be given until race morning to prove she is ready to make her debut at the Gold Coast.
The filly, who has had two trials, is an acceptor in Saturday’s Early Bird 2YO Handicap (900m).
Dram Of Delago ran third on December 7 behind Sunlight and Outback Barbie in a trial at the Gold Coast, beaten nearly 10 lengths.
Outback Barbie has since won the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes to earn a Magic Millions berth.
Trainer Matt Dunn then put Dram of Delago in a trial at Deagon on Tuesday when she beat the Chris Waller-trained Vitesse.
“She improved a lot from the first trial. The second horse at Deagon is apparently pretty smart and it was a good effort,” Dunn said.
“Dram of Delago has done very well since Tuesday’s trial. I wasn’t going to run her on Saturday but she has done so well I accepted and I will give her until Saturday morning to decide on running her.”
Jim Byrne has been booked for Dram of Delago and will also ride Perfect Dare for Dunn in the Benchmark 90 (1200m) on Saturday.
Perfect Dare was Group Two-placed when second in the Moreton Cup during the winter but has struggled in two runs back from a spell.
“He hasn’t won at the Gold Coast but he ran a nose second in the last Magic Millions Cup when ridden by Jim,” Dunn said.
“He seems to go well for Jim who has won three races on him so I am hoping he regains his best form.”
