Man of His Word headed to Sydney

Frustrated Gold Coast trainer Bruce Hill is looking to take Man Of His Word to Sydney after having a run of bad luck in the Queensland winter.

Man of His Word was one of the stars of the Brisbane summer winning the Brisbane Handicap and running second in the Bernborough Stakes.

He also raced well during the winter but without much luck.

“We had plans to run in the (Group One ) Stradbroke Handicap but when they switched it to Doomben we scrapped those plans.” Hill said.

“He was unlucky when fourth in the Spear Chief Stakes and then had no luck again when third in the Mumm Stakes.”

“We took him to Caloundra for the Glasshouse and there looked to be at least four natural leaders in the field. But they let the eventual winner Monsieur Gustave lead easily and my bloke wasn’t suited by the slow pace.”

“For him to charge home and run third was yet another very good run.”

Hill said he would head to Sydney to look for a dry track and a truly run race.

“They tend to go along from the start in Sydney and that will suit him,” Hill said.

“There is a 1400 metre race (Winter Stakes) on Saturday at Rosehill and then I might look at stepping him up to 2000.”

Man Of His Word has won six races overall and his stakes race record stands at seven starts for a win and three minor placings.

The $150,000 Winter Stakes is at Rosehill with mostly fine weather predicted in Sydney during the week.
