Man Of His Word could back up at Randwick
Queensland stakes winner Man Of His Word could back up at Randwick a week after his close second in the Winter Stakes.
Trainer Bruce Hill would like to send him out on a winning note after a mixed winter campaign and is keen to test him at 1800 metres on Saturday.
Man Of His Word finished a head second to Slightly Sweet in Saturday’s Listed 1400m-race at Rosehill after filling third place in his previous two starts in stakes races in Queensland.
“He is a horse who needs a big track. He has been so unlucky at home on small tracks,” Hill said.
“We wanted to run him in the Stradbroke Handicap but when they switched it from Eagle Farm that was cancelled.
“He is not suited at Doomben.
“I will see how he is during the week but I’d like to try him over 1800 metres.
“We’ll give him a break after that and look at spring options.”
During the summer, Man Of His Word won the Listed Brisbane Handicap over 1600 metres and finished second to Cylinder Beach over the same distance in the Bernborough Handicap.
He was one of 11 entries taken on Monday for the Randwick race with evergreen performer Jacquinot Bay among the nominations.
While Hill favours running in Sydney, Sound Proposition and Marenostro, the two highest rated nominations, could head north with both entered for the Listed Tattersall’s Mile at Doomben on Saturday, the final stakes race in Brisbane for the season.
A Group One winner in New Zealand for Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott, Sound Proposition made an immediate impact at his first start for new trainer Kris Lees when he won a 1600m-handicap at Randwick on June 24.
The five-year-old’s five wins have all been over 1600m including the 2016 Group One Easter Handicap at Ellerslie.
