Magpies win & the AFL’s stars come out to play – Twitter responds
THE first week of the bye rounds has been and gone and there are plenty of talking points coming out of round 11.
The Pies put together a remarkable win in Perth on Sunday, while a duo of in-demand on-ballers put on a brilliant display of dynamic football which lit up social media.
We took a look at some of our favourite takes from the weekend’s action.
Pies praised after courageous win in the west
The last game of round 11 saw one of the best away wins of the season as Collingwood upset the Dockers at Domain by 20-points, despite being two players down.
While the game was entertaining – especially in the latter stages – we are not sure that it was this good however.
That must have been a hell of a last quarter, 24 goals and 36 pts @theheraldsun #AFLFreoPies pic.twitter.com/PISAWAdB2C

Collingwood fans got to savour what could very well be their finest win of the season, but one fan had some words of solace for the Dockers following the defeat.
It’s ok @freodockers, nobody can take away your JLT victory over @CollingwoodFC #aflfreopies

The Collingwood win was exemplified by Tyson Goldsack’s tough effort to stay out on the field despite suffering from an injured shoulder was lauded by his coach Nathan Buckley, who described the defender’s game as gutsy.
Social media agreed.
@TLGold6 is as tough as they come. An outstanding effort when the team needed it most ✊ #gopies #AFLFreoPIES pic.twitter.com/nx5xvkViAm

One fan even thought Goldy should have gotten the VIP treatment.
While the Magpies were gritty in their 20-point win, Fremantle only had themselves to blame at times throughout the afternoon.
How crucial was Brad Hill’s miss? #AFLFreoPies
— Sausages (@8sausages) June 4, 2017
A Bradley Hill missed goal at a vital stage of the match left the door wide open for the Magpies, and Twitter came at the former Hawk hard.
That’s the second worst miss this year, Brad Hill, what are you thinking #AFLFreoPies

The stars shine on Saturday
Dustin Martin put on an absolute clinic under the roof, gathering 38 touches and booting two goals against the Kangaroos, a team which has reportedly tried to lure the former number three draft pick away from Richmond.
One fan believes his side will now need to up its offer to prise the superstar away.
We have just increased the offer to Dustin Martin by an extra $50,000 to come across at 3 quarter time #AFLNorthTigers

Another North fan had a novel way of getting Dusty in the blue and white.
North Melbourne are that desperate to sign Dustin Martin they should relocate to New Zealand to be more enticing.

The other man that turned heads on Saturday was GWS superstar in the making Josh Kelly.
The 22-year-old has put constant speculation about his contract on the backburner after yet another stellar performance, and everyone wants a piece – or to be – the former number two draft pick.
Wish i was josh kelly

Kelly and Martin were the headline acts of round 11, but many believe the pair will have a few things in common come the end of the season.
Picture it – Brownlow Medal night. Josh Kelly and Dustin Martin tie for it, hug, and then announce they’re both joining North.

We can only imagine how brilliant the Roos will be next season if they can pick up both Kelly and Martin.
