Magpies give injury update on Daicos, De Goey and Moore

Nick Daicos injury update - Brownlow favourite recovering well
Collingwood remains hopeful young star Nick Daicos will return for their first AFL final in 2023.

Collingwood says that young sensation Nick Daicos is ahead of schedule in his return from a knee injury.

The Magpies have also received a further boost with Jordan De Goey and Bobby Hill declared fit for their clash against Essendon on Friday night at the MCG.

Tough defender Nathan Murphy will be assessed later in the week after suffering several heavy blows in the loss to the Brisbane Lions on Friday night. The Magpies will also be without Beau McReery (suspension) and potentially Jamie Elliott who looked groggy towards the tail-end of the Lions clash.

The Magpies’ odds have come in by a few cents since the news broke, now priced at $1.19 to defeat the Bombers, who have blown out to $4.70 following their 126-point capitulation to GWS.

If Collingwood can defeat the Bombers they will win the minor premiership, although they have already secured a home final at the MCG in week one of the AFL finals.

The Magpies, despite their late season injuries and form troubles, are a $3.75 chance to win the premiership with AFL bookmakers, with the Brisbane Lions next best at $4.

But they will need some luck on the injury front with Daicos, among the favourites for the Brownlow Medal, and captain Darcy Moore both in a race against time to return for the Magpies first final.

“Nick Daicos is off crutches ahead of schedule in his knee injury rehab. The young midfielder has started bike, gym, and pool-based exercises and is expected to start running in the next fortnight,” Collingwood said.

The Magpies also confirmed Moore was recovering well from a hamstring injury and is likely to be fit for their first final in just over a fortnight.
