Magomedov gets new opponent for UFC Saudi Arabia after drug test

Shara Magomedov to fight Trocoli
Shara Magomedov is set to compete in the UFC Saudi Arabia event despite his old opponent, Joilton Lutterbach, being replaced due to a failed drug test.

On Thursday morning (AEST), UFC CEO Dana White made the announcement via Instagram.

Following the discovery of a prohibited substance in his urine sample, the doping commission withdrew Lutterbach from the fight, which he confirmed on his Instagram.

Magomedov (12-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has maintained an undefeated pro record in his MMA career and aims to build on a successful debut with the UFC.

In October, he secured victory in his debut match for the promotion by defeating veteran Bruno Silva through a decision.

The Dagestan native has experienced changes in opponents leading up to the UFC Fight Night bout.

  • His new adversary, Antonio Trocoli (12-3, 0-0 UFC), is preparing for his debut appearance in the UFC after facing challenges with the organisation.

Trocoli earned a contract with the UFC through the Dana White Contender Series back in 2019.

However, he was released following a failed doping test.

After returning to competition and securing a victory, Trocoli was re-signed by the promotion in 2022.

Despite this opportunity, he has faced three canceled fights.

Has yet to step into the octagon.

He was set to face Ikram Aliskerov on Sunday (AEST), but due to Aliskerov getting the opportunity to fight Robert Whittaker in the headline bout, the fight was cancelled.

This fight holds importance for both competitors, Magomedov aims to solidify his position as a top contender in the welterweight category, while Trocoli is eager to leave a first impression following previous setbacks.

The leading UFC bookmakers currently have no odds out for this fight due to the recent announcement.
