Lions, Bulldogs shorten in AFL Premiership odds after big wins

The Brisbane Lions have firmed into $5 to win the 2024 AFL Grand Final.

That comes after Chris Fagan’s men clinched a two-point win over the Sydney Swans at the Gabba on Sunday.

While the league-leading Swans have now lost three of their last four games, online bookmaker Neds still has them as outright premiership favourites at $3.25.

Splitting those two sides are Carlton, who hold steady at $4 after coming from behind to beat a spirited North Melbourne side in round 19.

The GWS Giants ($10) did their title credentials no harm with a convincing home win over the Gold Coast Suns, while Fremantle ($12) are sitting pretty in fourth place after their 50-point thrashing of Melbourne in Perth.

The Western Bulldogs took another scalp on Saturday night, beating Geelong by 47 points in horrid conditions at GMHBA Stadium.

Now just two points outside the eight, the Doggies have shortened into $15 to win the flag.

The Cats, meanwhile, are still in the mix at $12 despite dropping out of the top four.

It was also a big week for Hawthorn, who thumped Collingwood by 66 points to put themselves right on the cusp of the top eight.

While the Hawks are now paying $34 for a surprise premiership win, the Magpies have dropped from the third line of betting to huge odds of $101 in a matter of weeks.

Also on the slide are Essendon, whose two-point loss to Adelaide on Friday night leaves them clinging onto eighth place.

With the Bombers looking increasingly vulnerable due to their poor percentage, AFL bookmakers have wound them out to $51 in premiership betting.
