Liberty on song for Moonee Valley contest

Trainer John Moloney is banking on a good barrier and a light weight to turn around the fortunes of Liberty Song at Moonee Valley.

Liberty Song runs in the Dominant Handicap (1200m) on Saturday after placing at two of his past three starts while finishing a close-up fourth in the other.

“He just missed last time and it’s a similar type of field on Saturday,” Moloney said.

“He’s got a nice barrier and we know he can travel in a good spot.

“All we need now is a change of position from second to first.”

Moloney has decided to stick with apprentice Chelsea Hall who has ridden the three-year-old at his past four starts.

Her 3kg claim brings Liberty Song in with 51kg on Saturday.

“He does seem to run for her and he tries for her so we’ve decided to go that way again,” Moloney said.

“If she can put him in a good running position, with no weight on his back, hopefully that gives him his chance.”

Moloney also has debutante Mia Georgia running on Saturday in the Dominant Cleaning Solutions Handicap (1200m).

A daughter of leading sire Snitzel who has produced a record number of two-year-old winners this season, Mia Georgia has impressed Moloney on the training track and in jump-outs at Caulfield.

“She’s not a big filly which Snitzels aren’t by rights,” Moloney said.

“It would take a bit of doing to win first time out but there’s certainly promise there and she’ll run a race.

“We’ll certainly be watching her last 100 metres to see what she can do because they might just get a bit strong for her in the last part.”
