Lando Norris outpaces Max Verstappen to claim 2024 Dutch GP

Lando Norris wins Dutch GP

The 2024 Dutch Formula One Grand Prix (GP) on Sunday, August 28, has fans trembling in fear after the Mclaren dominance shows glimpses of the 2023 Red Bull Racing era.

After an exhilarating start watching hometown and original bookmaker favourite Max Verstappen overtake pole sitter Lando Norris almost instantly, fans were wondering if we could see Verstappen win another home Grand Prix.

However, Lando Norris on Lap 18 with the Drag Reduction System (DRS) overtook Verstappen along the straight and managed to hold the lead to claim his second career win.

Norris finished the race +22.896 seconds ahead of P2 Verstappen, something that hasn’t been done since back in Race 1 at the Bahrain GP by points leader Max Verstappen.

Punters were able to get +187 from Neds Bookmaker for Norris to win prior to the weekend starting, however, odds moved into as low as -149.25 after qualifiers.

Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell left underwhelmed after a poor performance from the company, securing seventh and eighth positions and bringing home 10 points for the team.

Ferrari with a surprise podium finish from Charles Leclerc, defending off Oscar Piastri from McLaren by 2 seconds. This was Leclerc’s seventh podium finish for the season, as he looks to tighten the gap in the driver standings.

Zandvoort Grand Prix biggest winners

Lando Norris – After securing another pole position, Norris had the best chance to secure his second win this season at Zandvoort and did so fashionably with a 22.8 second gap to second-place Max Verstappen. Norris, aiming to shorten the 70-point lead Verstappen has, will need to continue his form for the back end of the season.

Charles Leclerc – No one expected Ferrari to be on the podium this weekend, as the car had no pace throughout the weekend but managed to keep the much faster Piastri behind even with older tires. A glimpse of hope for the Italian team heading into their hometown race of Monza next week, currently paying +1200 at PlayUp to win.

Pierre Gasly – After a stelar first corner overtaking the Aston Martins on the outside, Gasly set himself up well for a points finish and managed P9 and strong points for Alpine.

Dutch Grand Prix Biggest Blunders

Mercedes – Fans cant even fathom why the team would have brought George Russell in to the pits and not let him defend against Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz. This only made the team’s result worse and gained nothing from the switch to slicks. A poor decision along the pitwall after a very disappointing weekend.

Sergio Perez – While only losing one place during this weekend race, Perez finished P6 at Zandvoort. This being said, poor qualifying led to this result, and Red Bull Racing needs Perez to do better in order to have a strong fight in the constructors championship and for any hope of saving his career at Red Bull.

Lance Stroll – The strongest qualifying session this year for Stroll had hopes of a double-point finish for Aston Martin, but a simple speeding in the pit lane gave Stroll a 5-second penalty. Stroll finished P13 because of his penalty and lost his race in the pits.

Carlos Sainz – Sainz began the race in P10 following the disqualification of Alex Albon and managed to finish in P5.
