La Liga soccer betting tips & goalscorer picks | Matchday 28
As the 2023/24 La Liga season approaches the business end, teams are fighting for positions across the table. With another 10 matches this weekend, here are our free soccer betting tips for Matchday 28 in the Spanish Primera Division.
Barcelona v Mallorca
Saturday, March 9 – 7am AEDT – Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys
After an impressive 1-0 win over Girona last weekend, Mallorca now face another tough test as they visit third-placed Barcelona. At home and undefeated in their past seven, Barca should be full of confidence as they push for a top-two spot. However, Barcelona will need to wary of the visitors after they dropped points in a 2-2 draw earlier in the season.
Barcelona / Both teams to score
Valencia v Getafe
Sunday, March 10 – 12am AEDT – Estadio de Mestalla
Sitting in ninth place, Valencia should be feeling confident after their unlikely 2-2 draw with Real Madrid last weekend. Looking to keep their European hopes alive, they welcome fellow mid-table side Getafe, who have not won at the Mestalla since 2018. Despite their inconsistencies throughout the season, Valencia are undefeated in their past nine home matches and should be too strong here.
Valencia to win
Cadiz v Atletico Madrid
Sunday, March 10 – 2:15am AEDT – Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla
Following a run of three matches without a win, Atletico Madrid were able to stop their slide last weekend with a tough home win against Real Betis. With their top-four position still under threat, they need to build momentum as they head to Cadiz. As the lowest-scoring side in La Liga, Cadiz are now 24 matches without a win and should struggle against quality opposition.
Atletico Madrid to win to nil
Granada v Real Sociedad
Sunday, March 10 – 4:30am AEDT – Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes
After being bundled out of the UEFA Champions League during the week, Real Sociedad have now recorded just one win from their past 10 matches. Desperately needing a win to keep their top-six hopes alive, they have the perfect opportunity against the 19th-placed Granada. Following the Andalusian club’s 5-1 defeat to Villarreal last weekend, it is hard to see many improvements here.
Real Sociedad to win
Girona v Osasuna
Sunday, March 10 – 7am AEDT – Estadi Municipal de Montilivi
After losing to Mallorca last weekend, the Girona fairytale is finally over and they now must shift their attention to holding onto their top-four spot. As they welcome Osasuna, they will need to be wary of dropping even further, as the visitors are undefeated in their past four. Back at home, Girona are the safer pick, but expect mistakes on the defensive end as Osasuna show quality of their own.
Girona / Both teams to score
Deportivo Alaves v Rayo Vallecano
Monday, March 11 – 12am AEDT – Estadio de Mendizorroza
Completely out of form, Rayo Vallecano have now gone nine matches without a win and sit dangerously close to the relegation zone. Heading to Alaves, they face a similarly battling side that is winless in its past five. With both teams struggling to get on the scoreboard, this match looks set to be a close affair with minimal opportunities.
Draw
Las Palmas v Athletic Bilbao
Monday, March 11 – 2:15am AEDT – Estadio de Gran Canaria
After securing a 0-0 draw with Barcelona last weekend, Athletic Club continue to impress this season with just two losses from their past 24 matches. Still sitting just outside the top four, they face a tough test against Las Palmas on Sunday. Sat in eighth place, the hosts have had success this season sitting behind the ball, but after conceding nine in their past three matches, cracks are showing in their defence.
Athletic Bilbao to win
Real Madrid v Celta Vigo
Monday, March 11 – 4:30am AEDT – Estadio Santiago Bernabeu
Sitting seven points clear at the top of the table, Real Madrid will be hopeful of returning to winning ways after their draw with Valencia last week. Facing the 17th-placed Celta Vigo, the home side should be far too strong despite missing star midfielder Jude Bellingham through suspension. In his absence, watch out for Vinicius Jr, who scored a brace last weekend and will be the main attacking outlet as Real dominate possession.
Vinicius Jr anytime goalscorer
Real Betis v Villarreal
Monday, March 11 – 7am AEDT – Estadio Benito Villamarin
After their horrific start to the season, Villarreal have shown their quality in recent weeks with a seven-match undefeated run. They now face the sixth-placed Real Betis, who will be keen to bounce back from their loss to Atletico Madrid last weekend. Normally, Betis would come in as only slight favourites, but given that Villarreal will rotate their squad due to their Europa League match during the week, the home side should be far too strong.
Real Betis to win
Almeria v Sevilla
Tuesday, March 12 – 7am AEDT – Power Horse Stadium
Sitting down near the relegation zone for most of the season, Sevilla have turned their form around in recent weeks. After losing just one of their past six, they now head to Almeria to face the worst team in La Liga. Still winless, Almeria are running out of opportunities to secure their first victory of the season as this run looks set to continue.
Sevilla to win
