Deportivo Alaves vs Cadiz Preview

Cadiz continued their terrible form last weekend as they went down 4-1 to Valencia. The lowest-scoring side in La Liga, they quickly need to turn things around to get out of the relegation spots. They head to Alaves this week, who will be full of confidence after a 90th-minute goal secured their win over Sevilla last weekend. At home and comfortable favourites, backing Alaves here is the smart bet.

Rayo Vallecano vs Las Palmas Preview

Exceeding all expectations so far this season, Las Palmas put together another excellent performance in a 3-0 win over Villarreal last weekend. Playing a defensive-counter style of football, Las Palmas are the second-best defensive side in La Liga. Rayo Vallecano also plays a defensive style, and after their 2-0 away win over Getafe, they will be confident in their chances this weekend. Six of the past seven matches between these two sides have gone under the total goal line, and with their current form, expect it again here.

Villarreal vs Mallorca Preview

In the midst of a horrific season, Villareal have slipped to 15th on the table as the second-worst defensive side in the competition. Needing a win, they welcome Mallorca, who, despite their poor position on the table, have lost just one of their last seven matches. With Villarreal holding the home advantage, it is hard to pick a winner, but as they haven’t kept a clean sheet in their past seven matches, look for both sides to get on the scoreboard.

Valencia vs Athletic Club Preview

After collecting their fourth consecutive win last weekend, Athletic Club has climbed up to third on the table. Looking to keep the pressure on the other sides around them, Athletic face a tough trip to the Mestalla to face Valencia, who are on a three-match winning streak of their own. When the sides faced each other earlier in the season, it ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw, and with the form of both sides, we are expecting a similar result.

Celta Vigo vs Real Sociedad Preview

After spending the majority of the season in the relegation zone, Celta Vigo have turned their fortunes around, recently losing just one of their past seven matches. Despite this, they still sit only two points clear of 18th and face a tough test against Real Sociedad this weekend. After their 2-1 loss in the Basque Derby last weekend, Real Sociedad will be keen to bounce back with a win to hold onto their spot in the top six.

Osasuna vs Getafe Preview

After winning two of their past three La Liga matches, Osasuna have pulled themselves away from the relegation battle for the moment. Needing points to steer clear of the battle, they welcome Getafe this weekend. Before Christmas, Getafe were one of the best sides in La Liga, as they lost just once in twelve La Liga matches. As both sides haven’t played a league game in over two weeks, picking the result here is difficult, but keep an eye out for Getafe striker Borja Mayoral, who has 12 goals already and has been linked with a high-profile move away.

Real Madrid vs Almeria Preview

After Girona dropped points in their clash with Almeria last weekend, Real Madrid will need to be wary of the last-placed side this weekend. Moving into first with a win here, Real Madrid are expected to dominate all aspects of the game here and, as such, offer limited value. Instead, we look towards Vinicius Jr., who will be looking to back up his hat-trick in the Spanish Super Cup last weekend.

Real Betis vs Barcelona Preview

Sitting fourth in the league, they face a tricky away trip to Betis this weekend. Despite losing to Barcelona 5-0 earlier this season, Betis will be confident of their chances of taking points off the defending champions, as they have earned draws against four of the six sides above them this season.

Girona vs Sevilla Preview

After dropping critical points to Almeria last weekend, Girona now sits just one point clear of Real Madrid. Facing a must-win clash to keep their title hopes alive, they welcome struggling 17th-placed Sevilla. Expected to return to their dynamic offensive play style that has taken La Liga by surprise, Girona should be far too good here.

Granada vs Atletico Madrid Preview

Tuesday, January 23 – 7:00am AEDT – Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes

Wrapping up the weekend, Atletico Madrid will be looking to make a successful away trip as they head down to face 19th-placed Granada. With just two wins all season, Granada have shown little to inspire so far. While Atletico lost their last La Liga match 4-3 to Girona, it was striker Alvaro Morata who almost carried them over the line with a hat-trick. With Atletico expected to dominate the match, back Morata to get on the scoreboard.
