Knights v Bulldogs preview

Friday night football kicks off in Newcastle with the Knights returning from the bye to host the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at McDonald Jones Stadium for round 13 of the NRL Premiership.

The Knights come off their bye having won four of their previous five matches. The home side enter the round in seventh place and could finish this weekend in fourth if other match results favour them.

The Bulldogs secured a dominant 32-point win over the Dragons last weekend, pouring on 38 points in the second half to overcome a six-point deficit at half-time. Canterbury sit 10th on the ladder and could jump up to fifth place if they secure a win on the road.

Knights coach Adam O’Brien has been forced to make one change, with Bradman Best (hamstring) replaced by Krystian Mapapalangi. Further, Daniel Saifiti will return from suspension on the interchange in place of Jack Hetherington.

Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo has been forced into making multiple changes. Matt Burton and Stephen Crichton were both picked by New South Wales for game one of State of Origin, while Viliame Kikau is sidelined with a finger issue.

With the Doggies losing left-edge attackers Kikau, Burton and Crichton, punters have backed the Knights in from $1.82 to $1.62 with NRL bookmakers.

Knights v Bulldogs predictions

The Knights have won three of their last five matches against the Bulldogs, and they’ve saluted in three of their five home games this season. Canterbury have lost each of their last 10 away matches and have failed to cover the line in their last four as underdogs. There is great value in the $1.96 price at Neds for the Knights to win and cover the -4.5 line.

While the Bulldogs are improving, they have lost either half in each of their last 33 matches. Meanwhile, the Knights have won both halves in three of their last four wins, with their last win being a 14-point comeback from half-time against the Titans. In front of their home fans, expect the Knights to complete the half-time/full-time double ($2.02).

Based on his form for the Bulldogs, it could argued that Jacob Kiraz might have been selected for the Blues in Origin I. The Canterbury winger has scored five tries in his last five matches, including a double against the Dragons last weekend. Expect that try-scoring form to continue this week ($3.20).
