Katy keeps giving for O’Dea
Former smart filly Kiss Me Katy is a gift that just keeps giving for trainer Steve O’Dea.
One of the few sure things in Brisbane racing is that O’Dea will have a smart two-year-old related to Kiss Me Katy each season.
Kiss Me Katy helped O’Dea get started in metropolitan racing when he arrived in Brisbane from Townsville in 2009.
She was his first Brisbane winner and his first stakes winner when she won the Listed Sir Douglas Wadley Stakes at Eagle Farm.
Kiss Me Katy also gave O’Dea his first taste of interstate racing when she ran third in the San Domenico Stakes in Sydney.

She has continued to help O’Dea’s career through her efforts as a broodmare.
O’Dea has trained the first three of Kiss Me Katy’s offspring, Katy’s Son, The Last Kiss and Dream Kisses, and they have all won.
O’Dea has accepted with the fourth of her foals Katy’s Daughter in the Sizzling Two-Year-Old Plate (1050m) at Doomben on Saturday.
“She is raced by a women’s syndicate who are friends or family of Joe Rapisarda who had Kiss Me Katy and raced all of her offspring,” O’Dea said.
“Joe has been a great supporter of the stable and is highly respected.”
A Burdekin farmer, Rapisarda has had many good horses apart from the Kiss Me Katy family including city winners Amber’s Crown, Bianca Jewel and Colinelle.
