Jockey dies at race meeting in NZ

A jockey has died during a race club meeting in New Zealand.

Police say they were called to Gore racetrack about 4.10pm on Sunday after a jockey fell from a horse and died.

Police would not comment on the identity of the jockey.

The fall happened during race eight at the Tapanui Racing Club meeting, which was then called off.

Police are preparing a report for the coroner and WorkSafe have been advised.
