Apprentice Chris Caserta has been charged with betting on thoroughbred racing against the rules.

Apprentice jockey Chris Caserta has been charged with placing six bets on thoroughbred races over a nine month period.

Racing Victoria stewards charged Caserta on Monday under the rule relating to riders not being allowed to bet on thoroughbred racing.

The details of the charge are that between March and December last year, Caserta placed and/or facilitated and/or had an interest in six bets on thoroughbred racing through his TAB account.

Stewards said none of the bets placed were on races Caserta was involved in.

No date has been set for Caserta to appear before the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board.

Caserta was banned for four months last year after testing positive to a banned substance.

Currently based in South Australia, the 23-year-old has ridden 29 winners this season.

He recently rode in his first Group One race, stripping his body down to 44kg to ride Jedastar in the Lightning Stakes at Flemington in which the two-year-old filly finished last.
