Joao Moreira to miss Melbourne Cup ride

Champion Hong Kong jockey Joao Moreira has limped back to the jockeys’ room after a fall in a race at Flemington but has been ruled out of the ride on Thomas Hobson in the Melbourne Cup.

Moreira hit the ground when the Chris Waller-trained Regal Monarch came down near the 300m of the Ronald McDonald Plate (280m).

Regal Monarch has been taken to a nearby veterinary centre for assessment.
