Jiminzah to stick to 1600m
Jaminzah has stormed past stablemate Veladoro to win Eagle Farm’s Open Handicap.
Jaminzah will stick to distances around 1600m despite again indicating he could be a stayer with a win at Eagle Farm.
The Chris Waller trained five-year-old ($16) was having his first run since December when he came from last and stormed past stablemate Veladoro ($7.50) to win by a 1/2 length in the Midori Open Hcp (1400m).
Waller’s Queensland manager Paul Shailer said just about every jockey who rode Jaminzah suggested he would be best at 2000m or further.
“But experience has shown and I believe it now. Jaminzah is a miler and the 1600m is as far as he wants to go,” Shailer said.
“That is the distance we will be keeping him at.”

Waller likes to trial his horses on the Tuesday before they run on a Saturday.
“Chris does it where possible and Jimanzah and Veladoro had a trial at the Gold Coast on Tuesday,” Shailer said.
“It rounded off their preparation very nicely.”
Jaminzah and Veladoro will both remain in Queensland in coming weeks.
“Surely there is a race for Veladoro soon. He was travelling so well at the 200m I thought he would win for sure and he should be even fitter next time,” Shailer said.
