Jamie Stier to return to Australia

Internationally experienced racing regulator Jamie Stier is to be the new boss of Racing Victoria’s Integrity Services.

Stier has resigned his position as Chief Regulatory Officer at the British Horseracing Authority and will take up his new role in Melbourne as Executive General Manager, Integrity Services in the new year.

Stier has 32 years experience in Australia, Hong Kong and England.

He began his career as a cadet steward for the Australian Jockey Club, the predecessor to Racing NSW, and spent 13 years with the NSW principal racing authority.

In 1998, he moved to the Hong Kong Jockey Club stipendiary stewards’ panel and five years later became chief steward.

In 2010 he joined the BHA as director of Raceday Operations and Regulation and became Chief Regulatory Officer in September 2016.

“Jamie is a highly-accomplished executive who has forged a lifelong career within the thoroughbred racing industry, and has gained an international reputation as a leading integrity officer,” RV chief executive Giles Thompson said.

“In the early years, he worked closely with stewards on all aspects of the industry, including the development of jockeys, licensing and trainers’ performance criteria. Since then, Jamie has furthered his experience in broader leadership roles, and has contributed significantly to the rules of racing at an international level.

“Integrity is vital to the ongoing success and health of Victorian racing. We have made great advancements in integrity over the past decade under the strong leadership of Dayle Brown and I have no doubt that we will continue to progress under Jamie’s guidance.”

Stier said he was looking forward to joining RV.

“I am hugely excited to be working with Racing Victoria and look forward to building on, and enhancing, the integrity structures which are already in place to help ensure the sustainability of racing in Victoria,” he said.

“Integrity is fundamental to the success of racing from the point of view of both the participants and the fans. With the support of the experienced team involved across the integrity function in Victoria, the focus will be on meeting the future challenges to integrity in racing to provide the public with confidence in our sport.”
