14-time group one winner Jamie Kah has been chosen as the jockey for Point King (IRE) in the 2024 Melbourne Cup for trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman.

The news was officially announced by the Freedman stable on Monday morning through their social media channels.

The international contender is currently positioned as the third favourite with the leading Australian bookmakers for the Melbourne Cup race.

The five-year-old gelding is set to carry 50.5 kg in the 3200-metre event and is priced at $15 for a win and $4.50 for the place in the Melbourne Cup futures betting with the bookmaker Neds Australia.

Kah’s commitment to riding Point King means she will not be aboard The Map, a South Australian horse on which she has enjoyed notable success in the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth II Cup wins and a narrow defeat in the Group 2 Adelaide Cup.

The Map, currently paying $21 with PlayUp to win the Melbourne Cup will be in high demand for lighter jockeys as the 6-year-old mare is set to carry 50 kg at Flemington on November 5, 2024.

Kah is currently undefeated on Point King, claiming the Group 3 Archer Stakes and a Benchmark 100 at Moonee Valley on August 10.

On race day, Kah will be set to race in the navy racing colours, with white arm stripes associated with the successful owner, Lloyd Williams, who has won the Melbourne Cup seven times, including most recently in 2020.
