Jake Paul angling for Pereira, McGregor bouts after Perry KO
YouTube star turned boxer Jake Paul has quickly gone about lining up future fights after knocking out Mike Perry, calling out both UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira and former two-division champion Conor McGregor.
The 27-year-old wasted no time in throwing down the gauntlet to Pereira, doing so while he was still in the ring on Sunday (AEST) in Florida.
“Alex Pereira, you said you want to box, I’m the king of this,” Paul called out after prevailing over Perry.
“Come over, we can make it happen. I want you, Alex Pereira.
“I just beat a BKFC champion. I beat multiple UFC champions. He said he wants to box.
“Alex Pereira, after Mike Tyson, let’s make it happen.”
Paul is lined up to fight the 58-year-old Tyson in November, and boxing bookmakers have installed him as a -250 favourite to defeat the former heavyweight champion.
Paul doubles down, responds to McGregor
Paul even went as far as to Facetime Pereira while in the ring on Sunday, showing the Brazilian how serious he is about fighting.
“He’s the king of the UFC right now, so I want him,” Paul explained afterwards.
“I’m going to decapitate him and dethrone him.”
Later, on social media, Pereira posted his response: “Let’s go. Chama.”
While there are complexities around the fight given Pereira’s contract with the UFC, Paul also fired off barbs at McGregor, who took exception to him over the weekend.
After Sunday’s fight, McGregor called Paul “the biggest pissbag I have ever seen in my life”.
In response, the YouTuber challenged the Irishman to a fight as well.
“Conor’s on Twitter all the time,” Paul said in his post-fight presser.
“He’s on his yacht all the time. Guess where he’s not? In the ring, fighting me.
“So he can talk all the f*** he wants, but The Notorious MMA is scared of Jake Joseph Paul from Disney channel.”
McGregor is due to make his comeback to the UFC later this year, with a fight date still unconfirmed.
