Jairzinho Rozenstruik to keep fighting despite UFC snub

Jairzinho Rozenstruik cut by UFC

Jairzinho Rozenstruik has promised to continue his MMA career despite being cut from the UFC roster after his loss to Sergei Pavlovich in Saudi Arabia last weekend.

The 36-year-old lost by unanimous decision in what was widely criticised as a lacklustre performance by the heavyweight, despite Rozenstruik entering the fight as a $3.50 underdog across UFC betting sites.

The defeat was Rozenstruik’s sixth in his last 11 fights after he began his UFC career with four-straight wins.

After the fight, UFC CEO Dana White called the bout a “horrible, horrible fight” and “the only fight all night to get booed” before releasing Rozenstruik from the promotion 48 hours later.

Now, the Suriname native has broken his silence, explaining his loss and declaring his intention to keep fighting.

“Let’s talk about UFC Saudi Arabia,” he wrote in a post on Instagram.

“I came to Riyadh to win and pull off the upset.

“After a strong fight week, I felt dizzy on Saturday due to the paint fumes.

“Then, just 70 seconds into the fight, I injured my left foot.

“The moment my switch kick landed on his elbow, I felt it instantly and knew the fight would play out differently than planned.

“At the end of 2018, I signed my first contract with the UFC, embarking on an incredible journey.

“I’ve been honoured to compete on the biggest stage, and I want to express my deepest gratitude to the UFC staff for their professionalism and support over the years. Thank you.

“From being Rookie of the Year to becoming an MMA veteran, this has been an unforgettable adventure.

“While this chapter closes, my story is far from over.

“I will continue to fight, take on new challenges, and settle unfinished business in the cage.

“I’m ready for whatever comes next!”

Rozenstruik is yet to indicate if he has had any offers from other MMA promotions to continue as a fighter.

In the meantime, the UFC continues with action heading to Sydney this weekend, where Dricus du Plessis takes on Sean Strickland for the middleweight title.

Picklebet (Picklebet review) has du Plessis as the heavy favourite to defend his belt, paying $1.50 to $2.70 in the South African’s favour for the main event of UFC 312.
