Jack Della Maddalena out of UFC 305 due to arm infection

Australia’s Jack Della Maddalena will miss the chance to fight in front of a home crowd at UFC 305 in Perth this August, with the welterweight announcing he is undergoing further arm surgery.
The 27-year-old shared gruesome photos via Instagram on Wednesday evening, detailing the issues he is facing.
Having broken his forearm at UFC 299 in his victory over Gilbert Burns, the Aussie underwent surgery. However, complication have led to an infection, which now requires additional surgery.
“Had surgery on my arm one week after 299. 10 days later my wound had began splitting. Which was indicative of infection,” Della Maddalena shared, before going on to outline the timeline of events leading to today’s decision.
Della Maddalena vs Rakhmonov postponed
Not only does Della Maddalena’s arm surgery mean Australian UFC fans will miss out on seeing their home star compete, but it also put his clash against Shavkat Rakhmonov on ice.
The No.5-ranked welterweight had called out the Kazakh following his UFC 299 win, saying:
“There’s some scary people in this division, and I’m the f*cking scariest. Shavkat Rakhmonov, I think me and you could make a hell of a title eliminator. One of the best in the business, let’s go.”
In response, Rakhmanov said:
“I respect your courage and confidence Jack, but you will face the same fate as my previous opponents.”
The pair were due to fight in Perth, but now that Della Maddalena is out for a minimum of 12 weeks, the bout will have to wait.
Della Maddalena labelled the forced withdrawal as “a bitter pill to swallow” before vowing to fight again before the end of the year.
