Ivan Juric replaces De Rossi as AS Roma boss
AS Roma have confirmed the appointment of former Torino manager Ivan Juric as the club’s new head coach.
On Wednesday, Juric penned a contract valid until June 2025, with the option to extend for an additional year should Roma secure Champions League football.
The Croatian replaces Daniele de Rossi at Stadio Olimpico, after the Italian was fired four games into the 2024-25 Series A season.
Appointed as Jose Mourinho’s replacement in January this year, De Rossi led Roma to a sixth-place finish last season.
The 41-year-old also took the Giallorossi to the last four of the Europa League, where they were eliminated by Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.
De Rossi’s dismissal, however, came in the wake of Roma’s abysmal start to the campaign.
“Daniele De Rossi has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the first team,” read the club statement.
“The club’s decision is taken in the interest of the team, to be able to promptly resume the desired path at a time when the season is still at its beginning.
“To Daniele, who will always be at home in the Giallorossi club, a heartfelt thanks for the work carried out in these months with passion and dedication.”
Juric has the tough assignment of reviving Roma, who are one point above the relegation zone after failing to win any of their first four league games.
The Croatian coach is vastly experienced, having spent his entire managerial career in Italy with teams like Mantova, Crotone, Genoa, Verona, and Torino.
His first assignment comes this Sunday, where online bookmakers are paying $1.63 for Roma to beat surprise league leaders Udinese ($5.51).
