It’s Somewhat fit for Valley target race
Doncaster Mile winner It’s Somewhat is ready to peak in the Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley.
A fitter It’s Somewhat will step out for his first spring target at Moonee Valley.
A winner of the Group One Doncaster Mile and the Group Two Hollindale Stakes in the autumn, It’s Somewhat contests Saturday’s Crystal Mile.
Godolphin trainer James Cummings said the 1600m contest, run one race before Winx attempts a record-equalling third Cox Plate, had been a target for the imported galloper for some time.
It’s Somewhat enters Saturday’s race off a first-up 10th in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on October 1, a trip Cummings said was too short.
“That was the run he needed to be ready for this weight-for-age mile race,” Cummings said.
“He’s had a good break in between runs which he’s shown a liking for.

“He was good in a jumpout recently and he was good at the Valley on Tuesday when he galloped on the course proper.”
That gallop indicated to Cummings the tight Moonee Valley circuit won’t hold any fears for It’s Somewhat, a galloper the trainer describes as having a really bold action.
“He could have been at risk of not getting around a tight track like this,” Cummings said.
“But he has a winning record at the Gold Coast and he handled it well at the Valley on Tuesday.
“He can put himself right into a race and try to take luck out of the equation.”
It’s Somewhat is one of three equal favourites for Saturday’s race at $5, sharing the topline with the Darren Weir-trained Burning Front and Chris Waller’s Religify.
