Injured track rider still on life support
Trackwork rider Riharna Thomson remains on life support in a critical condition after an accident at Canberra’s Thoroughbred Park.
Canberra Racing Club chief executive Peter Stubbs said Racing NSW chaplain, Colin Watts, would lead prayers for the popular Thomson before the first race at the showcase Black Opal Stakes meeting on Sunday.
Thomson, who was recently promoted to the position of stable foreman of the Keith Dryden-Scott Collings training partnership, was injured on Tuesday,
“Our thoughts are with Riharna’s family and friends during this difficult time. Her family requests that their privacy be respected at this sad time,” Stubbs said.
CRC employees and stable staff are receiving support and have been offered counselling services with the assistance of local pastor Steven Prior and Watts and through the Racing NSW Racing Mates Assistance Program.
