In-form McEvoy completes a Sandown treble
Rockarral has formed part of a winning treble for trainer Tony McEvoy at Sandown.
Trainer Tony McEvoy has built on an amazing month with a treble at Sandown to go with a four-timer at Morphettville.
Rockarral, winner of tWednesday’s Ladbrokes Handicap, and Lake District Girl, successful in the Ladbrokes Cash In Handicap, were part of his quartet of winners at Morphettville on February 6.
Winning Partner, the third leg of Wednesday’s treble, took out the Ladbroke Cash Out Handicap giving McEvoy his 15th winner for the month.
Included in his winning February haul is the Group One C F Orr Stakes at Caulfield with Manuel who runs in Saturday’s Futurity Stakes.
Earlier in the day McEvoy-trained two-year-olds Outlandos and Whykayoh finished second and third in the Ladbrokes Advanced Odds Handicap.
“It’s been an exciting day,” McEvoy’s Melbourne foreman Michael Shepherdson said.
“The two stables are working really well hand in hand.
“They get really fit working on the hills at Angaston (South Australia) and when they race in Adelaide they get a nice confidence win before coming here to the Flemington stable.
“We get them back in form and then we can place them right.”
Shepherdson said Winning Partner, who was the $2.60 favourite, would win a good race one day.
“I would like to see him jump a little cleaner and not give himself so much to do, but he’s got a really good turn of foot,” Shepherdson said.
“Outlandos and Whykayoh were both good as the winner (La Tene) had a bit of weight pull and they’ll both head to the Sires’ now.”
