Impregnable overcomes poor start to win
Promising gelding Impregnable ran a class record winning at Doomben on Saturday but trainer Toby Edmonds believes he will have to improve his barrier manners to be top class.
Impregnable ($2.90) charged to the line to beat Red handle ($20) by a 1/2 length with a head to Jetsonic ($7) third in the Strathmore Collections Handicap (1200m).
At his previous start Impregnable hit his head in the barrier hen third at odds on in a 1000m race two weeks ago.
Things didn’t go to plan again when Impregnable jibbed at the start but jockey Jeff Lloyd was able to drive him up into a handy position.
“It is a problem with him at the start. But we will continue to work on him and he should improve further,” Edmonds said.
Impregnable has now won four of his six starts this campaign and could be headed for a spell.
“He has done a good job and been up for a while. But there re some more Saturday city races coming up which could suit him,” Edmonds said.
Impregnable is one of several horses Edmonds trains for the Ontrack Syndicate and he will have some nice two year olds for them this season.
