Iga Swiatek storms into Round of 16 at Indian Wells
Defending champion Iga Swiaktek is in ominous form at the 2025 Indian Wells Open, racing past Dayana Yastremska in just over an hour on Sunday for her second-successive 6-0, 6-2 victory in California.
Top tennis betting sites had the Pole on the second line of betting to win the WTA 1000 event pre-tournament but have now shortened her title odds to sit level with Aryna Sabalenka as favourite.
Into the third round with just four games dropped, Swiatek says that her confidence levels are high this week.

“I was pretty confident from the beginning,” she said after her match against Yastremska.
“I just kept doing my thing, and I’m happy that I could close it in such a confident way.
“I know that I’m in a good place and I’m going the right way.
“So I feel pretty pumped up.”
The slow, high-bouncing surface in Indian Wells suits the 23-year-old’s heavy topspin shots, and her record here proves it.

Across the 22 matches she has played at the event, Swiatek holds a 20-2 record, of which 17 have been straight-set victories.
“My game, for sure, fits the surface here,” she said.
“I feel like it makes it more visible, you know, the topspin that I play.”
Swiatek does not credit the surface for all of her success in Indian Wells, however, saying that the length of the tournament and her general happiness also helps.
“It’s never only about the surface,” she said.
“For sure the surface helps, but it’s not the only thing. You still need to do the job.
“I’ve always been pretty focused here and also accepting the mistakes that are going to happen this dry air, you know.
“I always had time before to do solid work. It wasn’t like I was rushed anywhere.
“Sometimes in these one-week tournaments, there is no time to practice, for example.

“But here I always have that.
“I know I just feel comfortable and I found my rhythm also off the court to recover well.
“I guess it’s a mix just being happy here and having a good life.”
Next up, Swiatek takes on 15th seed Karolina Muchova in the round of 16 on Tuesday, where she is a $1.18 bookmaker favourite at Marantelli Bet to win and book her place in the quarter-finals.
