Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Thunder match preview

After six weeks of exciting Big Bash League action, BBL14 comes to a close this Monday night in Hobart as the Hurricanes take on the Thunder in The Final.

At home, the Hurricanes are clear favourites for this clash at $1.65 with the leading sports bookmakers, while the Thunder are an outside shot at $2.30.

Hobart’s path to the final has been smooth sailing, as they finished the season on top of the ladder earning the right to host the Sixers in The Qualifier last Tuesday.

Batting first, the Hurricanes set a strong score of 173, as the likes of Mitch Owen (36 off 15), Caleb Jewell (40 off 41) and Ben McDermott (42 off 31) led the way.

In the chase, a fiery spell from Riley Meredith (2/34) and Cameron Gannon (2/10) left the Sixers 3/5 and they never recovered, as Hobart got home with 12 runs to spare.

The Hurricanes have been the best team all tournament and will be tough to beat here. Opener Mitch Owen has had a breakout tournament, while the likes of Matthew Wade, Ben McDermott and Tim David all offer excellent hitting through the middle.

With the ball, spin bowling might be a weakness, but the pace quartet of Meredith, Gannon, Chris Jordan and captain Nathan Ellis are tough to get away.

The road to the T20 BBL final has been a different story for the Thunder, who have covered injury concerns and wavering form to produce a pair of strong finals wins.

After beating the Stars on Wednesday night at home, the Thunder produced another upset win over the Sixers on Friday, getting home with four wickets and seven balls to spare.

Bowling first, it was an excellent display of economic bowling, as just one bowler went above eight runs per over, limiting the Sixers to a sub-par 151.

English wicket keeper Sam Billings guided the team home with the bat, scoring 42* off 29 balls, while others hit around him.

With injuries affecting the Thunder batting lineup, there isn’t much experience outside captain David Warner and Billings, with three of their top five batsman aged 25 or younger.

With the ball, the Thunder have the best spin trio in the competition, with Tanveer Sangha, Chris Green and Tom Andrews all producing quality overs through the middle of the game.

Hobart Hurricanes vs Syndey Thunder predictions

As the best team of BBL14 so far, it is hard to look past the Hurricanes at home. The Thunder lack quality and depth in their batting lineup, while Hobart have a much more rounded squad. The Hurricanes have won every home game this tournament, so back them to secure their first ever BBL title at $1.65 with BetOnline.

Hurricanes all-rounder Mitch Owen has been the breakout player of the tournament, with the third-most runs in the competition. Shifted to the top of the order Owen has been given a license to swing and he takes full advantage of the early powerplay conditions. He has scored 30 or more in each of his last three knocks, so back Owen to pass the mark once again at $2.20 with the top cricket betting odds.

After an underwhelming season, Thunder pace bowler Nathan McAndrew has had a stellar finals series, taking six wickets across the two games. With the side fielding just two genuine pace bowlers, McAndrew is guaranteed to bowl in both powerplays and at the death, getting cheap wickets from attacking fields. With conditions in Hobart expected to favour the pace bowlers, back McAndrew to continue his wicket-taking form with two or more poles at $2.35 with Marantelli Bet.
