Hulkenberg to Sauber, Ricciardo’s Red Bull return in doubt
In a shakeup in the driver market, veteran German racer Nico Hulkenberg will be leaving Haas at the end of the Formula One season to return to Sauber, the team he previously competed for back in 2013.
The 36-year-old driver, who made a comeback to the sport after a three-year break, has been putting up performances with Haas this season, securing points in three out of five races.
Hulkenberg’s move back to Sauber is significant, as the Swiss team is on track to become an Audi factory squad by 2026.
His wealth of experience and strong teamwork ethic make him a valuable addition to Sauber and their ambitious Formula One venture.
On another note, Red Bulls team principal Christian Horner has set expectations regarding Daniel Ricciardo’s return to the team next season.
Ricciardo, who was rumoured as a replacement for Sergio Perez, has faced challenges this season, consistently trailing his teammate Yuki Tsunoda and failing to earn any championship points.
Horner stressed that Ricciardo’s chances of reuniting with Red Bull depend entirely on his performance.
He must deliver results that not only impress Red Bull but also catch the eye of other teams.
Adding to the complexity is the situation involving skilled Red Bull backup driver Liam Lawson, who showcased his Formula One potential when he filled in for the injured Ricciardo last season.
As the Formula One calendar moves forward with the Miami Grand Prix on May 6, there’s a lot of uncertainty, in the driver market with Hulkenberg switching to Sauber and Ricciardo’s future at Red Bull up, in the air.
