Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Thunder BBL13 preview
Kicking off the New Year’s Day double-header, the Hobart Hurricanes and the Sydney Thunder face off at Blundstone Arena. Here are our free betting tips and match preview for Match 21 of the Big Bash Season:
The Hobart Hurricanes are sat on the bottom of the standings after just one game from their four matches so far. In their last match, they fell to the Melbourne Stars by seven wickets after a poor bowling effort in their rain affected clash. With no batsmen scoring over 100 runs so far in BBL 13, there are major concerns over the output of their explosive batting line-up. There is also on the bowling attack and their lack of wicket, as they have just 12 wickets in four matches.
Sitting just one point above the Hurricanes, the Sydney Thunder also have just one win this season, as they were saved by the rain in their clash against the Sixers on Saturday. However, unlike the Hurricanes, the Thunder rank very well statistically but have been unable to put together a full team performance. Due to international commitments, Pakistani bowler Zaman Khan has now been ruled out of the tournament, whilst the Thunder have added to their batting stocks with English batsman Tom Kohler-Cadmore.

Thunder Top Runscorer – Alex Hayes
Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Thunder betting predictions
With the close odds and the past five matches between the sides having alternating winners, there is no stand-out side in this clash. Neither team has been very impressive so far in BBL 13, but early wickets are key as both top orders are incredibly dangerous. The Thunder have looked slightly better this season, but with the Hurricanes winning six of their past eight at Blundstone Arena, it is hard to look past the home side. Back the Hurricanes in at -111.11 with Neds.
Coming up against the Thunder lower order that has struggled throughout the Big Bash so far, Hurricanes bowler Nathan Ellis should be very effective at the death. With an unusual action that has taken him to the international level, Nathan Ellis is one of the best white-ball bowlers in the country. With just four wickets so far this tournament, Ellis shows great value to frustrate the Thunder innings with 2+ wickets at +145 with top cricket betting sites.
On a pitch that usually favours the batsman early on, English opener Alex Hales will be looking to make a fast start after his inconsistent tournament so far. Facing his former side, Hales knows how the pitch traditionally plays and how the short square boundaries can be exploited. With a wealth of T20 experience from across the world, Hales needs to put in a match-winning knock to keep the Thunder’s season alive. We like him as the Thunder top runscorer at +280 with the online bookmakers.
