Heavy track for Spring Champion Stakes
Randwick’s track has reached a heavy 8 ahead of the Spring Champion Stakes meeting as showers continue across Sydney but officials are confident racing will go ahead.
Randwick track manager Nevesh Ramdhani surveyed the track on Friday morning after 32mm of rain fell in 24 hours.
Ramdhani’s rating of a soft 7 changed to heavy late on Friday afternoon with the Bureau of Meteorology recording close to 17mm at Randwick since 9am.

He said as much as he preferred heavy downpours over soft soaking rain the track was handling it well.
“We’ve deliberately positioned the track where it can take a bit of moisture. We backed off the irrigation and it’s been drying out pretty much all week and it’s been hanging out for this rainfall,” Ramdhani said.
“The only issue is obviously how much rain we get in the next 24 to 36 hours. But at this point in time I’m pretty happy with the condition of the track.”
The bureau predicts a 60 per cent chance of rain at Randwick on Saturday.
