Hawthorn v Fremantle R18 match preview
Fremantle face a tricky test on their charge towards the AFL finals as they take on Hawthorn in Launceston this Saturday afternoon.
Despite making the long journey from Perth, the Dockers enter this clash as $1.80 favourites with Bet365. The Hawks are paying $2.10 with Unibet, while the line is set at just 2.5 points.
Last Saturday, Hawthorn’s five-match winning streak was broken as they fell to Geelong by 51 points. It was a disappointing day for Sam Mitchell’s side, who lost every quarter while kicking just nine goals for the day.
It was a major hit to the Hawks’ finals hopes, as they remain in 13th on the AFL ladder. With seven rounds remaining, they offer decent value to finish inside the top eight at $3.75 with leading online bookmakers.
Adding to the disappointment of last Saturday, Hawthorn have lost key forward Mitch Lewis for the rest of the season after he suffered an ACL injury. But they will regain skipper James Sicily and livewire Jack Ginnivan this weekend.
On the other hand, Fremantle beat Richmond by 51 points at Optus Stadium in round 17. After conceding the first two goals of the game, it was all one-way traffic as the Dockers won every quarter. Key forward Josh Treacy led the way with five goals, while midfielder Andrew Brayshaw had 35 disposals and a goal.
With just one loss since round 10, Justin Longmuir’s men have shot up to third on the ladder. However, top AFL bookmakers still have them on the sixth line of premiership betting at odds of $14.
Fremantle will be without ruckman Sean Darcy this weekend after he was concussed against the Tigers, leaving Luke Jackson as the sole ruck option. This could lead to a recall for key forward Patrick Voss, who hasn’t played a senior game since round 10.

Hawthorn v Fremantle betting predictions
Although Hawthorn went down against the Cats, their form leading up to that clash was terrific. And while Fremantle are running hot as well, visiting teams tend to struggle in Launceston. At $2.10 with Unibet, back Hawthorn to cause an upset as they make it five wins at York Park in a row.
Having a career-best season, Hawthorn forward Dylan Moore leads club’s scoring charts with 26 goals. He has kicked multiple goals on six occasions this year, including each of the last two weeks. Back Moore to continue his great season with two or more goals at $2.05 with top Australian bookies.
Fremantle vice-captain Andrew Brayshaw has been in excellent form in 2024, averaging nearly 28 disposals per game. He has collected over 30 touches in three of his last five games and seven times this season. He averages more disposals against the Hawks than any other side, so back Brayshaw to collect 30 or more at $2.15 with leading sports bookmakers.
