Hawthorn v West Coast Round 7 preview

Hawthorn and West Coast will clash at Marvel Stadium this Sunday afternoon, with top AFL bookmakers backing the Hawks as firm favourites to bounce back in Round 7 following consecutive losses.

The Hawks are heavily favoured at $1.04, while the Eagles are rank outsiders at $12.50 to pull off an upset. The line is set at 56.5 points as Sam Mitchell’s side look to regain momentum and push towards a finals berth.

Hawthorn have shown plenty of fight in 2025 and will be eyeing this as a must-win. With Jai Newcombe in blistering form and forwards Mabior Chol and Dylan Moore starting to gel, the Hawks should feel confident facing a rebuilding West Coast side.

West Coast will be buoyed by the return of co-captain Oscar Allen and are slowly starting to get more AFL-level contributors. Rising star Harley Reid continues to impress, and the inclusions of Tom Cole, Noah Long, and Tyler Brockman add valuable depth. However, unless the Eagles can limit Hawthorn’s control around the contest and generate more scoring pressure, this one could slip away from them early.

Hawks v Eagles R7 team news

Hawthorn will welcome back young star Jack Ginnivan this week after he was omitted from the side last round. Conor Nash is a notable out, set to miss the next four weeks after his hit on Gryan Miers in the Easter Monday clash.

Outside of those changes, the Hawks will still be without key names Will Day and Mitch Lewis, both sidelined for extended periods.

West Coast regain co-captain Oscar Allen to bolster their forward structure. However, they remain without Campbell Chesser, veteran Dom Sheed, and Elliot Yeo — the latter still without a confirmed return date.

The Eagles will need to decide whether to go tall or rotate younger forwards into key roles, with several WAFL players pressing for selection. Against a well-drilled Hawthorn outfit, experience may be favoured as they search for improved consistency.

Hawthorn v West Coast predictions

Jai Newcombe have hit form over the past month, recording disposal counts of 25, 32, 21, 29, and 28 in his last five games. He had 33 in their last meeting against the Eagles and looks great value to hit 30 or more again at $2.40 with Picklebet.

Mabior Chol is averaging 2.2 goals across his last five games against West Coast and has kicked three or more in two of his last five matches overall. Take the $3.05 on offer for him to bag three or more goals with online bookmakers.

James Worpel enjoys pushing forward against the Eagles and hit the scoreboard in three of his last five games against them. At $2.25 with Neds., he’s a sneaky play for an anytime goal scorer.
