Round 15: GWS v Sydney match preview
The high-flying Sydney Swans will look to maintain their stranglehold on top spot in the AFL when they face local rivals GWS at ENGIE Stadium on Saturday.
Despite playing away, the Swans enter as favourites at $1.50 with Bet365. The Giants are paying $2.65 with Unibet, while the line is set at 12.5 points.
Last Saturday, Sydney secured their 12th win of the season as they beat the Adelaide Crows by 42 points. Despite trailing for most of the first three quarters, John Longmire’s men were able to get on top late in the match, kicking 10 goals in a row to run out comfortable winners. Key forward Joel Amartey was the match-winner with nine goals, while ruckman Brodie Grundy had 31 disposals and 49 hitouts.
After nine wins in a row, the Swans sit three games clear on the top of the ladder. As such, they are favourites for the premiership at $3.50 with top Australian bookmakers.
Just one change is expected for Sydney this week, with utility Robbie Fox returning in place of either Braeden Campbell or Matt Roberts.
The Giants were also successful in round 14, beating Port Adelaide by 22 points at ENGIE Stadium. Both sides struggled with inaccuracy, but the Giants were the better team on the day and kept the Power to just six goals.
Alternating wins and losses over the past four weeks, the Giants are one of the hardest sides to gauge in the AFL. However, as they sit in fifth place, top AFL bookmakers have them at $2.50 to finish in the top four.
GWS defender Lachie Ash is expected to return from a calf injury this week, while Nick Haynes is the only forced change after suffering a hamstring injury against the power. Stephen Coniglio and Darcy Jones are both a test to return.

GWS Giants v Sydney Swans betting strategy
With just one loss this year, it is hard to look past Sydney. They comfortably won the last matchup between these sides in round eight, and with one of the smallest injury lists in the AFL, they have had consistency in selection throughout this season. Despite some slow starts in recent weeks, the Swans should be too strong for the Giants, so back them to cover the handicap of 12.5 points at $1.91 with online bookmakers.
Sydney wingman Errol Gulden has taken his game to another level in the last two weeks, averaging 36 disposals across those games. Sitting second in the AFL for kicks this year, he is well on his way to another All-Australian jacket. Gulden has won the Brett Kirk Medal the last two times these sides have faced off, so back the 21-year-old to collect 35 or more disposals at $4.33 with top AFL betting sites.
GWS forward Callum Brown has transformed his game in 2024. Averaging 1.7 goals per match, the Irish product has been able to make the most of his limited touches and plays much taller than his 188cm frame. With multiple goals on six occasions this season — including the previous clash against the Swans — back Brown to kick two or more at $2.90 with PlayUp.
