GWS Giants v Fremantle match preview
Round 23 of the 2024 AFL Premiership season continues this Saturday afternoon with a thrilling clash between the GWS Giants and Fremantle in Sydney.
Last Saturday, the Giants produced one of their best performances of the season, beating the Brisbane Lions by 18 points at the Gabba. Despite trailing at every break, GWS rallied late and kicked eight of the last nine goals to clinch a priceless win.
Adam Kingsley’s men have now jumped into third on the AFL ladder and have the third-best odds for the premiership at $6 with top online bookmakers. They are also clear favourites this weekend at $1.52 with Bet365.
Don’t expect too many changes for GWS, but one key inclusion could be former captain Stephen Coniglio, who is a test to return from a shoulder injury.
Fremantle suffered their second successive defeat last Saturday, going down to Geelong by nine points at home. In a close game, the Dockers were unable to hold onto their slim lead in the final quarter, as they struggled to break through the Cats’ defence.
After sitting in third spot just two weeks ago, Fremantle are now at risk of missing the top eight altogether. Facing a long trip across the country, they enter this clash as underdogs at $2.60 with PlayUp.
While there are no forced changes for Freo, coach Justin Longmuir faces a selection squeeze with captain Alex Pearce, ruckman Sean Darcy and veteran forward Michael Walters all set to face fitness tests.

GWS v Fremantle betting predictions
On a six-match winning streak, the Giants will be tough to beat. Fremantle have lost three of their last four matches outside Western Australia, and when these sides faced off at this venue last year, GWS were dominant 70-point winners. At $1.91 with leading AFL betting sites, back the Giants to cover the line of 11.5 points.
After a disappointing four-disposal effort against the Lions, expect GWS captain Toby Greene to bounce back with a big performance. The small forward has 37 goals this year, including multiple majors in six consecutive games prior to last week. He has kicked six goals across his last two matches against the Dockers, so back Greene to kick three or more goals at $2.45 with top Australian bookmakers.
Fremantle midfielder Caleb Serong is well known for his efforts in the contest, but recently he has also become a forward threat. The 23-year-old has eight goals in his last eight matches, including a three-goal haul last Saturday against the Cats. At $2.30 with leading sports bookies, Serong offers great value to kick a goal.
