GWS Giants v Western Bulldogs Round 7 preview
The GWS Giants will face a serious test of their AFL Premiership credentials when they tackle the Western Bulldogs in Canberra this Saturday night.
GWS are quietly putting together a strong 2025 campaign and will be eager to bounce back after a disappointing 18-point loss to the Crows in wet conditions last week.
That performance can be seen as an outlier for the Giants, who have otherwise been one of the AFL’s most consistent sides. Expect them to put that loss behind them and return to the high-pressure, fast-paced footy that has defined their season so far.
The Bulldogs, meanwhile, come into this clash riding high after a dominant display against St Kilda. The return of captain Marcus Bontempelli was massive — he tallied 30 disposals and kicked two goals in his first match of the season, instantly lifting the Dogs’ midfield output.
While GWS remain firmly entrenched in the top eight, the new-look Bulldogs lineup is shaping as a serious threat, setting the stage for a cracking contest.
Giants v Bulldogs R7 team news
GWS have confirmed that former captain Stephen Coniglio will remain sidelined this week, still recovering from injury. In a further blow, Brent Daniels has also been ruled out and is expected to miss another three to four weeks — a significant loss for the Giants’ forward pressure and structure.
On the positive side, star forward Jesse Hogan will return to the lineup after being a late withdrawal last week due to calf soreness.

The Western Bulldogs received a major scare last week when Sam Darcy appeared to suffer a serious knee injury. While early fears suggested a potential ACL tear, scans later revealed a fractured kneecap that will keep the young star out for at least two months.
With Darcy sidelined, Rory Lobb is expected to shift forward, opening the door for Jedd Busslinger to make his AFL debut after three years on the list. James Harmes (foot) and Laitham Vandermeer (knee) are both expected to be available for selection as well, giving the Dogs some much-needed depth.
GWS v Western Bulldogs predictions
Toby Greene has been electric this season, consistently kicking goals for the orange and charcoal. He’s kicked three or more goals in three of his last five games and narrowly missed on another occasion, and Picklebet is giving us good odds of $2.55 for the GWS skipper to bag another treble.
Connor Idun is showing his versatility for GWS and has collected 20 or more disposals in three of his last five outings. He averages 19.8 against the Dogs and had a standout 28-disposal performance against them last season. Back him for 20 or more disposals at $2.15 with online bookmakers.
Bailey Williams is one of the Dogs’ most reliable distributors and is averaging 22.2 disposals across his last five games. He’s also cleared the 20-touch mark in back-to-back games against GWS, making him a solid option to do so again at $2.15 with Neds.
