Grills scores overdue Highway Handicap win

One of the best trainers in country NSW has ended a run of outs in Sydney races set aside for bush-trained horses.

Sue Grills had tried to win a Highway Handicap four times before Fickle Folly set the record straight over 1100m for the trainer at Rosehill on Saturday.

“I’ve had four runners (in Highways) before today and they all ran last,” Grills said.

“The trip home to Tamworth today won’t take as long as the past couple of Highways I’ve been in.”

Fickle Folly ($11) won an early struggle for the front to gain an advantage over the favourite Zakynthos Regrets ($3.80).

For jockey Tommy Berry it was a deciding moment.

“The key to her today was that she was able to cross so quickly,” Berry said.

Fickle Folly’s one-length win brought about Zakynthos Regrets’ unbeaten run this time in after victories at Wagga Wagga and Leeton.

The three-year-olds came away from their rivals with Kooringal Star ($3.90) finishing three lengths away third.

Grills said Fickle Folly, who now has four wins from seven starts, was a genuine sprinter.
