Good ‘n’ Fast registers Flemington victory

Flemington winner Good 'n' Fast.
Good ‘n’ Fast (Luke Nolen) will chase late-season black-type after breaking through at Flemington.

Good ‘n’ Fast is likely to get his chance to chase a black-type win late in his juvenile season after the colt backed up an eye-catching debut with a victory in his second start at Flemington.

A half-brother to multiple Group One placegetter Fast ‘n’ Rocking, Good ‘n’ Fast charged home for second on debut at Flemington two weeks ago over 1100m before stepping up to 1400m in Saturday’s Gippsland Region Handicap.

With Luke Nolen aboard, Good ‘n’ Fast took, the $2.60 favourite, warmed to his task to score by a neck over the closing Goldifox ($5.50), with another length to Scottish Rogue ($7.50) third.

Co-trainer Tom Dabernig indicated the Listed Taj Rossi Series Final (1600m) at Flemington in two weeks loomed as an opportunity for Good ‘n’ Fast.

“We’ve always had a nice opinion of him,” Dabernig said.

“Today you can still see that he’s very green and took a while to hit top gear, but once he did he won quite comfortably.

“I think when the penny fully drops he’ll develop into quite a decent horse.”

Nolen described the win as “tradesmanlike” and is confident the colt will be better as a three-year-old.
