Gollan after first 2YO win of the season

Premier Qld trainer Tony Gollan hopes Mass Destruction will be his first 2yo winner of the season.

Leading Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan is again a runaway leader in the metropolitan premiership but he hopes to rectify an unusual statistic at Eagle Farm.

Gollan already has his seventh straight title wrapped up with 55-1/2 wins, more than double nearest rival Robert Heathcote, but he has not had a two-year-old metropolitan winner this season.

He believes that will change soon starting with Mass Destruction in Saturday’s QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap (1000m).

“We haven’t had many of our youngsters ready for the early part of the season,” Gollan said.

“We do have some really nice two-year-olds ready to race so I would expect we won’t be long out of the winners lists.”

Mass Destruction is one of the few Saturday juvenile runners Gollan has had this season.

The colt has filled minor placings at both his runs in Saturday company behind Lady Banff and Red Stiletto.

“Mass Destruction has tried hard in both his runs and he is better for the experience,” Gollan said.

“He is drawn wide on Saturday but with the rail out six metres it shouldn’t be a great disadvantage.

“Baylee (Nothdurft) will claim 1-1/2 kilos so he gets in nicely at the weights.”

Mass Destruction, who is raced by the 2K Syndicates Group, is a full brother to smart Victorian filly Kinky Boom.

The colt was a $200,000 buy at the Inglis Classic Sales. His sister was passed in at the Magic Millions Sales this week.

Gollan has had an exceptional summer carnival winning 14 races including seven features.
