The Gold Coast Suns will start round 12 of the AFL season as hot favourites to beat the North Melbourne Kangaroos this Saturday at TIO Stadium in Darwin.
Stuart Dew’s men usually start their weekends as underdogs, but they will enter this match against the Roos as unbackable favourites at just $1.07 with most online bookmakers.
The Kangaroos are simply a mess coming into the bye rounds, as they are still riddled with injuries and the majority of their list is out of form.
Scoring has been a major issue for the Roos in 2022, as their highest total of the year came in their round four loss to the Swans when they managed 75 points.
Cameron Zurhaar has held up the North Melbourne forward line most weeks, but he will miss this weekend’s action after injuring his foot in round 11.
Ben McKay may return this Saturday and add some stability to North’s defence, while the Suns will likely remain unchanged after their comfortable win over the Hawks last weekend.
Will the Roos lose their eighth consecutive match by over 40 points, or will they finally put up a fight and give their fans something to cheer for?

Key matchup: Mabior Chol vs Nick Larkey
Kicking goals is the most important aspect of football, and Mabior Chol continues to prove his worth in that department. The former Tiger has kicked a goal in all 11 matches so far this season and does not look like slowing down this week.
Although Nick Larkey has been playing for the least potent team in the competition, he has still managed to kick 19 goals this season – including five games with multiple majors.
Both Chol and Larkey are important cogs for their respective teams, as they are two of the most used targets inside 50. The conditions in Darwin are expected to be hot and humid, meaning the big boys need to impact early.
Gold Coast vs North Melbourne match predictions
We have seen more than enough football this season to understand the Kangaroos are well below league standard, as they simply do not have enough depth or experience to match even the mid-table teams. The Suns just belted the Hawks by 67 points in round 11, so we have pushed out the handicap to 52.5 points to give us better odds.
Gold Coast Suns -52.5
Suns vs Kangaroos AFL goalscorer betting tips
The humid climate in Darwin is not always conducive to good footy, but we think Mabior Chol has the right traits to thrive in the conditions. Chol is quick at ground level and starting to become a very smart contested mark, as his positioning seems to be improving week after week. Chol slotted three goals at TIO Stadium last week and should dominate once again, especially if Ben McKay does not play.
Mabior Chol 3+ goals
Gold Coast vs North Melbourne same-game multi
Mabior Chol will star up forward for the Suns while Matt Rowell regains his best form in the midfield this Saturday, ultimately leading to another decimation of the Kangaroos.
Gold Coast -52.5 / Chol 3+ goals / Rowell 20+ disposals
