Round 16: Gold Coast v Collingwood preview
The Gold Coast Suns will be looking to bounce back from consecutive losses this Saturday afternoon, as they face Collingwood at People First Stadium in round 16 of the 2024 AFL season.
Despite playing on the road, the Magpies are slight favourites in this clash at $1.81 with PlayUp, while the Suns are $2.02 with Bet365. With a close match expected, the line is set at just 2.5 points.
Last Sunday, the Suns suffered their seventh loss of the season, as they fell to Fremantle by 20 points on the road. Missing star forward Ben King, Damien Hardwick’s side struggled to keep the ball inside 50 and scored just 65 points on the day.
As a result, the Suns have slipped to 12th on the AFL ladder. However, despite being winless on the road in 2024, they are also undefeated at home this season.
With no injuries last week, there are no forced changes for Gold Coast. However, they are expected to regain King if he can get through the midweek training sessions.
Collingwood had their bye in round 15, which came after a one-point comeback win over North Melbourne. Trailing by as much as 54 points in the third term, Craig McRae’s side kicked 12 of the last 16 goals to scrape over the line.
Sitting in fourth place on the ladder, the hunt for back-to-back premierships is alive for the Magpies. After a slow start to the season, Collingwood are now paying $6 to win the flag.
There could be bulk changes for the Magpies this week, as they regain Scott Pendlebury, Brody Mihocek and Oleg Markov. Jordan De Goey and Joe Richards are also a test for this clash, but with no forced changes, expect some tough omissions.

Gold Coast v Collingwood predictions
As one of the most inconsistent sides in the AFL, Gold Coast need to make a statement if they are going to push for finals. However, facing one of the form sides in the competition, they will be tested. Although the Suns are unbeaten at home this season, the Magpies should be too strong as $1.81 favourites.
Coming off a disappointing match against the Dockers, Gold Coast midfielder Noah Anderson will be looking to bounce back this week. One of many Suns players who have been better at home this season, the 23-year-old averages over 32 disposals per game in their victories. He has also gathered over 30 disposals in each of his last three matches against the Magpies, so back Anderson to collect 30 or more disposals at $2.50 with top online bookmakers.
After booting five goals against the Kangaroos, small forward Bobby Hill looks the most dangerous option in the Collingwood attack. He has a goal in six of his last seven matches and is averaging career-high numbers across the board. With the Suns’ key defensive pair of Sam Collins and Charlie Ballard expected to nullify the Magpies’ talls, back Hill to continue his great run of form with two or more goals at $2.20 with AFL betting sites.
