Giants v Steelers NFL Monday preview
The Pittsburgh Steelers host the New York Giants in NFL Week 8 this Tuesday (AEDT) as they look to extend their excellent start to the season.
The Giants have struggled so far this year, and that was no different last Sunday as they went down to the Eagles 28-3. New York quarterback Daniel Jones finished a difficult day with just 99 passing yards, while the team could only accumulate 76 total rushing yards.
The defeat brings the Giants’ record to 2-5 for the season, leaving coach Brian Daboll under severe pressure. They are a bottom-three scoring offense, while on defense they allow more yards per carry than any other team. As a result, it is not surprising to see them as clear underdogs at +220 with Marantelli Bet.
The Giants’ defense is looking very thin due to injury. Cornerback trio Cor’Dale Flott (groin), Tre Hawkins (ankle) and Adoree’ Jackson (neck) all missed practice this week, as did defensive linemen Dexter Lawrence (hip) and Ty Summers (ankle).
It has been a different story for the Steelers, who continued their strong form with a 37-15 win over the Jets last Sunday night. After trailing 15-6 midway through the second quarter, Pittsburgh then scored 31 unanswered points to run away with it. Former Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson was excellent in his first start for the Steelers, throwing for 264 yards and two touchdowns while adding another on the ground.
While it was a brave call from coach Mike Tomlin to switch out Justin Fields for Wilson, it was vindicated as Pittsburgh put up their highest score of the season. At 5-2, the Steelers have the second-best defensive record in the NFL, which justifies their position as -270.27 favourites this week.
Pittsburgh are expected to play linebacker Tyler Matakevich and offensive tackle Dylan Cook after they both returned from injured reserve this week. However, safety DeShon Elliott is in doubt after missing practice.
Giants v Steelers betting strategy
It is hard to see this going any other way than another Steelers win. They have been one of the top teams in the NFL on both sides of the ball, particularly in the last two weeks, while the Giants have been incredibly poor. Given the game is in Pittsburgh, look for added value in the Steelers to cover the extended spread of -9.5 at +160 with leading online bookmakers.
Given the Steelers’ impressive defensive record, don’t expect the Giants offense to suddenly kickstart this week. New York have scored a combined 10 points across their last two games, and seven of their last eight have gone under the total points line. At -111.11 with top sports betting sites, back this game to go under 36.5 points.
Known for his scrambling abilities, Russell Wilson started off his Steelers career with a rushing touchdown. He has now scored in four of his last six games, and the +550 anytime touchdown quote at Bet365 is excellent value.
