Germany, Switzerland advance at EURO 2024 as Scotland bow out
Hosts Germany settled for a 1-1 draw with Switzerland on Sunday in their final match of Group A in EURO 2024.
Lacklustre from the onset, having already secured their spot in the last 16, the hosts fell behind in the 28th minute through a fine first-time strike by Switzerland forward Dan Ndoye.
Despite having a second goal ruled out by VAR, Switzerland defended resolutely for the majority of the match and were seemingly on course to finish top of Group A ahead of Germany.
However, under pressure from their home fans, Germany’s resilience during the final moments of the game eventually paid off, as substitute Niclas Fullkrug found the equaliser deep into stoppage time.
The win leaves Julian Nagelsmann’s side top of the group on seven points — two points ahead of Switzerland, who also qualified for the knockout stages.
Despite stuttering on the night, Germany remain among the favourites to lift the European Championship, paying +400 outright odds at Marantelli Bet.
Meanwhile, Scotland crashed out of EURO 2024 after a shocking 1-0 defeat to Hungary on Sunday.
Hoping to advance past the group stage in a major tournament for the first time in their history, Steve Clarke’s side suffered heartbreak after Kevin Csoboth scored for Hungary in the 100th minute.
As such, Scotland were eliminated after finishing bottom of their group, while Hungary — third on three points — await the conclusion of group stage matches to know if they’ll advance as one of the best third-placed teams.
