Geelong v Western Bulldogs match preview
Two in-form finals contenders face off this Saturday night as Geelong host the Western Bulldogs in round 19 of the 2024 AFL Premiership season.
At home, the Cats are favourites at $1.48 with PlayUp, while the Bulldogs are $2.70 outsiders with Bet365. The line is set at 13.5 points.
Last Friday night, Geelong secured a 20-point win over Collingwood at the MCG. Having trailed midway through the third quarter, the Cats kicked five of the last seven goals to run away with it. Max Holmes and Gryan Miers each had 27 disposals, while Jeremy Cameron led the way with three goals.
With three wins in a row, Chris Scott’s men have seemingly overcome their mid-season slump to jump up to third on the AFL ladder. At $8.50 with leading online bookmakers, they have the fourth-best odds for the premiership this season.
There are no forced changes for the Cats, but midfielder Tanner Bruhn is a potential inclusion after recovering from a fractured wrist. Coach Scott may also consider recalling Rhys Stanley, as Geelong were comfortably beaten in the ruck against the Magpies.
The Western Bulldogs were also successful in round 18, securing an impressive 14-point win over Carlton. Despite a goalless opening term, the Dogs were able to secure the upset thanks to four goals each to Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and Rhylee West.
The Dogs have won three of their last four games to climb to 10th on the ladder, just one game outside the top eight. However, with a tough run of fixtures to finish the season, top AFL bookies give them odds of $2.45 to make the finals.
Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge should regain a trio of important players this week, as Adam Treloar, Aaron Naughton and James O’Donnell are all expected to return.

Geelong v Western Bulldogs predictions
A major concern for the Bulldogs this season has been their inability to win away from home. They have lost six of their past seven matches against the Cats, including a four-point loss in round four. With Geelong rediscovering their early-season form, back them to win by less than 40 points at $2.05 with leading Australian bookies.
Geelong’s good form has coincided with a midfield move for Tom Stewart. The five-time All-Australian defender has seamlessly adapted to the new role in the past three weeks, averaging 25 disposals per game while attending 80% of centre bounces. Back Stewart to hit the 25 mark again at $1.87 with leading AFL betting sites.
Averaging 28.3 disposals per game since round six, Bulldogs defender Bailey Dale has been very consistent in arguably the most inconsistent side in the AFL. After collecting 31 disposals against the Blues, the 27-year-old has now had over 30 on six occasions this season. Back Dale to continue his good form with 30 or more disposals at $3 with Bet365.
