Geelong Cats secure Max Holmes with four-year contract extension
The Geelong Cats have achieved a win behind the scenes as Max Holme has committed to staying with the club for the next four years.
The 21-year-old player’s contract was due to expire at the end of the season, but he has now signed on until the 2028 AFL campaign
Holmes’ choice to extend his tenure with the Cats is a morale boost for the team given his work ethic, professionalism and impressive progress since joining.
Geelong’s football manager, Andrew Mackie, praised Holmes for his speed, endurance and dedication, expressing enthusiasm for his development both as an athlete and an individual.
Starting off this season in strong form, Holmes is averaging 23 disposals and 573 metres gained per game after moving into a half-back role.
Selected as pick 20 in the 2020 draft, Holmes played a pivotal role in Geelong’s successful premiership bid in 2022; however, he was sidelined from playing in the grand final due to a hamstring injury in their preliminary final.
The Cats are now focusing on securing deals with forwards Ollie Henry and Tyson Stengle, whose contracts run out at the end of the season.
Experienced midfielder Cam Guthrie, set to make a comeback from a quad injury against Carlton on Saturday, is another player who has yet to commit to a new contract.
