Fundraiser for injured Scott Jones
The Lismore Turf Club has set the date for a fund-raiser for injured secretary/manager Scott Jones who suffered serious burns in an explosion at the track.
The LTC will hold the benefit the day after its race day on March 17.
The club’s deputy chairman, Mike Cleaver, said the club had received many items for auction.
“We’ve organised a big family day for the mums and dads and their kids on the Saturday and then a big fundraiser on the Sunday,” Cleaver said.
“Helen (Sinclair) is looking after it all for us. That will include a big auction and we already have some brilliant memorabilia promised for that auction.
“We’ve had so many offers from everyone. Racing NSW has also been a big help. At this stage, we are sorting through it all and have a lot in the pipeline.”
Jones is recovering well from the incident on November 23 and has undergone several operations and skin grafts.
“He came into the club and had a chat last week,” Cleaver said.
“He’s doing his rehabilitation at home now but does go back up to Brisbane to see his specialists.
“He’s going well though and way ahead of where they thought he would be.”
