French filly Senga wins the Prix de Diane

The Pasqual Bary-trained Senga has won a dramatic Prix de Diane at Chantilly.

Leading Irish hope Rhododendron was pulled up by Ryan Moore and was later found to have had a bleeding attack while Christophe Soumillon came off Onthemoonagain in the straight.

The winner was having her fourth run in eight weeks after Bary talked her owners, the Niarchos family, into giving her a chance at the 2100 metres of the race known as the French Oaks.

“She is a fantastic filly, from a fantastic breeding operation,” Bary said.

“We definitely ran her over too short a distance before.

“Her connections trusted me to let her run in this race, despite having run only two weeks ago.

“She had a good run, in a race with consistent pace, and showed a superb turn of foot.”

Senga beat Sistercharlie by a length with Terrakova a close third.
