Round 24 AFL preview: Fremantle v Port Adelaide
In the final match of the 2024 AFL home-and-away season, it’s all on the line as Fremantle and Port Adelaide face off at Optus Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Last Saturday, the Dockers suffered their third consecutive defeat as they went down to the GWS Giants by nine points in Sydney. Despite leading at halftime, Fremantle just couldn’t match the attacking firepower of the Giants, as they conceded nine goals in the second half.
As a result of the loss, the Dockers have now slipped out of the top eight for the first time since round 11. This means their finals hopes are out of their own hands, as they need to win while needing one of the Bulldogs, Hawks or Blues to lose. At $1.85 with Playup, Fremantle enters this clash as slight favourites.
There is just one change for Justin Longmuir’s side this week, as veteran forward Michael Walters has been recalled in place of Bailey Banfield.
Port Adelaide secured their fifth consecutive victory last weekend, winning the Showdown against Adelaide by 22 points. It was a close match for three quarters before the Power kicked away in the last, slotting five goals to two.
A major talking point of the match occurred when Port Adelaide’s Dan Houston knocked out Izak Rankine, a moment that swung the momentum in the Power’s favour. As a result, the 2023 All-Australian half back will now miss the remainder of the 2024 season after he was given a five-match ban.
Ken Hinkley’s side now sit in second spot on the ladder and are guaranteed a top-four finish. Tied on points with the GWS Giants, they will need to win while securing a greater percentage in order to hold onto second spot and secure two home finals.
However, despite their form, on the road they enter this clash as underdogs at $2.02 with Unibet.
Key forward Mitch Georgiades is a key inclusion alongside Jed McEntee, while Quinton Narkle has been omitted.

Fremantle v Port Adelaide R24 predictions
Although the Dockers have been in poor form recently, at Optus Stadium they are always a tough challenge. However, Port Adelaide have been excellent on the road this season with an interstate record of 9-3. Despite being the inform side, they enter this clash as underdogs, which offers excellent value at $2.02 with Bet365.
Two of the best defensive sides in the AFL, expect this match to be a low-scoring affair. Three of the Power’s last four matches have gone under the total points line, while the Dockers have gone under in four of their last six at the venue. Last time these sides met it was an incredibly low-scoring affair, so back this match to go under 159.5 points at $1.91 with top online bookmakers.
Fremantle vice-captain Andrew Brayshaw has had another excellent season in 2024, but he has taken his game to another level across the last five weeks. Averaging 34.2 disposals per game over that span, the 24-year-old is coming off a 41-disposal effort against the Giants. Expected to continue his stellar form, back Brayshaw to collect 30 or more disposals at $2.15 with leading Australian betting sites.
