Fremantle v Melbourne preview

Fremantle will be hoping a return home can help them bounce back to form when they host Melbourne on Sunday afternoon at Optus Stadium.

The Dockers ($1.40) are heavily favoured to defeat the Demons ($3.05), who have fallen out of favour with punters following a season-ending injury to Christian Petracca and an injury to captain Max Gawn. The $1.90 line with Neds has been set at 16.5 points.

But the Dockers are reeling after their weak showing against Hawthorn, when they were narrowly beaten in a tough contest in Launceston. They will be relying on their excellent home record to spark a turnaround and will be confident after eclipsing the Demons by 92 points in round 12.

The Dockers play a high-intensity style that involves playing on at every opportunity with quick hand passes that open space and present scoring opportunities. They are the fourth-highest disposal side in the AFL, ranking third for handballs and 11th for kicks.

Fremantle welcome defenders Alex Pearce and Brandon Walker, ruckman Sean Darcy and midfielder Will Brodie into the extended squad. There are no injury-related omissions, but Joshua Draper has been dropped.

Melbourne have been hot and cold in recent weeks but are coming off a tough win over the Bombers as underdogs with online bookmakers. Despite the win and a place in the top eight, the Demons are not considered premiership contenders, as most bookies have them priced around the $30 mark to hoist the AFL trophy.

Melbourne will be without Taj Woewodin, who is being managed. Midfielder Jack Billings, defender Adam Tomlinson, forward Bailey Laurie and ruckman Tom Fullarton have all been added to the extended squad.

Fremantle v Melbourne betting tips & strategy

It is hard to look past Fremantle’s demolition of Melbourne in round 12, and they should prove too good again — especially on home turf. To add some value, take the Dockers at the -12.5 handicap at $1.90 on Unibet.

Fremantle midfielder Jeremy Sharp produced a standout performance in his team’s loss to the Hawks, with 14 kicks, nine marks and one goal. Back Sharp as an anytime goalkicker here at $2.40 on Neds.

Fremantle’s Luke Jackson produced a best-on-ground effort against the Hawks, with 20 disposals, 31 hitouts and one goal. If he can replicate that type of performance, he should grab at least 20 disposals at $1.98 with Neds.
